The Board of the Authority for Electricity Gas and Water met Maroš Šefčovič, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Energy Union, today in Rome.
During the meeting, held at the European Commission Representation Offices in Italy, different matters were dealt with regard to aspects within the competence of the European Regulators for electricity and gas sectors, starting with sharing the Energy Union Communication. Among these there was Italy's role in infrastructure development, including the contribution that our country can give to the gas market in view of sharing costs considering the advantages between EU countries, with particular focus on the Southern Gas Corridor. Another issue was the generation adequacy and the capacity markets for a pragmatic and regional approach. Emphasis was also placed on the governance of the energy market, sharing the necessity for some improvements, including the cooperation of the National Regulatory Authorities through Acer (Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators). In particular, it was highlighted how the independent Authorities sustain the European integration project, representing the complexity of the different national systems: for this it was stressed how their coordination with Acer is crucial for the development of a plural Energy Union, based on a regional dimension rather than on unified models for everyone.
