The European Commissioner for Climate and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete met today in Rome the Board of the Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity, Gas and Water. This was the first such meeting held at the Regulatory Authority Offices, where the discussion focused on the "Clean Energy for All Europeans" Winter Energy Package introduced yesterday by the EU Commission and some of its major themes, such as the European single market, the retail markets, the new structure of the electricity market, with particular focus on the capacity market and the Regulatory Authority's strengthened role within the ACER European Agency.

The independent Authorities' support of the European energy market integration project was particularly emphasized, as they represent the complexity of the various national systems; this is why their coordination at ACER remains crucial to the development of a plural Energy Union based correctly on a regional dimension, such as outlined in the aforementioned Package, where the Italian Regulator stands as a candidate for the leadership in its future region of membership.
